            &#60;p&#62;Dear residents,&#60;/p&#62;
						&#60;p&#62;When is it ok to leave your child home alone? Georgia has no laws determining when a child is old enough to be left without adult supervision; but it does have these guidelines:&#60;/p&#62;
						&#60;ul class=&#34;blu&#34;&#62;
							&#60;li&#62;&#60;span class=&#34;blk&#34;&#62;Children under 8 should &#60;span class=&#34;attn&#34;&#62;never&#60;/span&#62; be left alone, even for short periods of time.&#60;/span&#62;&#60;/li&#62;
							&#60;li&#62;&#60;span class=&#34;blk&#34;&#62;Children 9-12, based on maturity level, can be left home alone for brief periods.&#60;/span&#62;&#60;/li&#62;
							&#60;li&#62;&#60;span class=&#34;blk&#34;&#62;Children 13+ can generally babysit, with the exception of children in foster care. Not recommended to baby sit infants, small children, and children with medical conditions.&#60;/span&#62;&#60;/li&#62;
							&#60;li&#62;&#60;span class=&#34;blk&#34;&#62;Children 15+ can be left home alone overnight, depending on their level of maturity.&#60;/span&#62;&#60;/li&#62;
						&#60;/ul&#62;
						&#60;p&#62;The U.S. Census says about seven million school-age kids are regularly left home alone: 15 percent before school; 76 percent after school; 9 percent at night.&#60;/p&#62;
						&#60;p&#62;If you decide to leave your child alone, it is important to consider their developmental abilities; how they feel; their comfort level; are they capable of responding to an emergency?&#60;/p&#62;
						&#60;p&#62;Start with short trial runs to make sure they are comfortable; be accessible (always leave your cell phone on) or have a trusted adult accessible; and set rules.&#60;span class=&#34;attn&#34;&#62;*&#60;/span&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
						&#60;p&#62;Your child must:&#60;/p&#62;
						&#60;ol class=&#34;blu&#34;&#62;
							&#60;li&#62;&#60;span class=&#34;blk&#34;&#62;Call you at work to let you know they're home from school.&#60;/span&#62;&#60;/li&#62;
							&#60;li&#62;&#60;span class=&#34;blk&#34;&#62;Never tell anyone who phones/knocks on door that they are by themselves.&#60;/span&#62;&#60;/li&#62;
							&#60;li&#62;&#60;span class=&#34;blk&#34;&#62;Know where you are/how you can be contacted.&#60;/span&#62;&#60;/li&#62;
							&#60;li&#62;&#60;span class=&#34;blk&#34;&#62;Never open door/ talk to anyone through the door unless it is a trusted family friend/relative they feel comfortable being alone with and the visit has been pre-approved by you.&#60;/span&#62;&#60;/li&#62;
						&#60;/ol&#62;

            &#60;p style=&#34;padding-top:6px;&#34;&#62;The latest victims of mass-marketing fraud and identity theft are children.&#60;/p&#62;
						&#60;p&#62;Given a Social Security number at birth, they don't use it until they get their first job as teenagers. During those in-between-years, Internet fraudsters access those numbers in a variety of ways to counterfeit checks and money orders, and facilitate schemes, including overpayment, lottery, and employment fraud.&#60;/p&#62;
						&#60;p&#62;The fraud is not discovered until the teen starts working and applying for credit. Here is what&#38;#146;s happening in Westbury..&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
** PACT Meeting Notes Online&#60;br /&#62;
** Pool Party August 21&#60;br /&#62;
** 2010 Bus Dropoff Pickup Procedures&#60;br /&#62;
** Solicitors in Westbury&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
** PACT Meeting Notes Online&#60;br /&#62;
The meeting notes are now available online at:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;a href=&#34;http://westburyhoa.org/pact_meeting_highlights.pdf&#34;&#62;http://westburyhoa.org/pact_meeting_highlights.pdf&#60;/a&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
To the 21% of Westbury homeowners who showed up for Tuesday night&#38;#146;s Police and Community Together meeting, THANK YOU.  The information we learned was invaluable and will be very helpful as we work together for a safer Westbury.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
To the 79% of you who did not attend, it was EMBARASSING and a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT for your volunteer Board of Directors who explained to both the Major and Sergeant of City of Johns Creek Police Department, that we flyered each individual mailbox, emailed you TWICE, posted the meeting on the Westbury website and twitter, and posted the meeting on the exit board for over 3 weeks days prior to the meeting.  &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Many of you complain to us when thefts occur in Westbury that we are not doing enough.  Then when we put together such an important meeting, you fail to give us 60 minutes of your time.  &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
** Pool Party Saturday August 21&#60;br /&#62;
End of summer pool party is scheduled for Saturday August 21, 2010 from 5-7pm. The raindate is the following Sunday at 5pm.  Pizza and drinks will be provided.  &#60;br /&#62;
Please bring a snack or desert.  If you can help with the party contact Preethi via 770-410-0313.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
** Bus Dropoff Pickup Procedures&#60;br /&#62;
2010 bus dropoff/pickup procedures are published and will be flyered to every mailbox in Westbury prior to school starting.  Violators will be fined $50 without warning which are designed by Westbury parents to keep Westbury children safe, and to insure those leaving for work in the morning can do so unimpeded.  That means..&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
For Elementary school, do NOT park on the east (pool side) of Sheringham.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
For Middle and High school, do not park or dropoff in front of or around the guard house as this disrupts those leaving for work.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
For more information see&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;a href=&#34;http://westburyhoa.org/bus_procedures_2010.pdf&#34;&#62;http://westburyhoa.org/bus_procedures_2010.pdf&#60;/a&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Bus stop information for all Fulton County grades &#38;amp; Schools is available at: &#60;a href=&#34;http://westburyhoa.org/schoolbus&#34;&#62;http://westburyhoa.org/schoolbus&#60;/a&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
** Solicitors in Westbury&#60;br /&#62;
Many of you have asked us about what is and is not legal with regards to solicitors in Westbury.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Although we have a &#38;#147;no soliciting&#38;#148; sign at the front of the subdivision, it cannot be legally enforced unless the solicitor does not have a city issued identification card showing they have completed the necessary paperwork to solicit door to door.  If a solicitor cannot show city issued ID, the Police ask that you immediately call 911 so the solicitor can be checked out (some may be working for/are criminals).&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
People who are knocking on doors to share religious comments and brochures is not illegal and is protected by freedom of speech laws.  If they are not selling anything, there is not much we can do about them.  Be courteous if you send them on their way.   &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Always call 911 if you see suspicious behavior.&#60;/p&#62;

**Association Tree Service Tomorrow (Thursday)&#60;br /&#62;
Westbury will be having some annual tree service maintenance work done tomorrow (Thursday) July 22.  The work will be done in Westbury common area behind Sheringham Lane.  The contractor is Triple T Tree Service.  The contact is Mark on 770 617 1121.  Mark has offered very competitive rates to Westbury homeowners who need tree pruning or removal of clearly distressed or obviously diseased/dead trees.  Contact Mark for a quote while he on site tomorrow. &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Please be reminded you can only remove trees that are obviously dead (no green) or obviously in distress (50% or less green).  Tall hardwoods that are 85% or more green are not considered distressed and should be given time to recover.  &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
** Pool Party Saturday August 21&#60;br /&#62;
We have another pool party scheduled for Saturday August 21, 2010 from 5-7pm.  The raindate is the following Sunday at 5pm.  Pizza and drinks will be provided.  Hope to see you there!&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
** PACT Meeting Coming Soon&#60;br /&#62;
In response to your inquiries, we are working with the City of Johns Creek Police to schedule Westbury to attend an upcoming PACT (Police and Community Together) meeting.  The date is not finalized yet but we wanted to let you know we are working on it.  We will announce a date in the coming week so please watch this mailing list for that information and plan for someone from your household to attend.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
This new tool is now available from the City of Johns Creek Police Department:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;a href=&#34;http://www.johnscreekga.gov/police/crimereports.asp&#34;&#62;http://www.johnscreekga.gov/police/crimereports.asp&#60;/a&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
** Don&#38;#146;t Forget to Restrain and Pickup After Your Dog&#60;br /&#62;
Fulton County and Johns Creek ordinances require that you always pickup after your dog and retrain your dog with a leash at all times.  Failure to comply will result in a $250 fine without warning.  We have issued violations this year.  This problem still exists.  Make sure to educate your dog sitter and family members looking after your pet this summer.  Always walk with baggies in hand.  Thank you for your cooperation.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
** Please Remember No Glass at Pool&#60;br /&#62;
We&#38;#146;ve issued more $50 glass fines this year that ever before!  Children seem to be the biggest violators.  PLEASE educate your children that they cannot bring glass onto the pool deck because it&#38;#146;s almost impossible to clean up every shard when the glass breaks.  We do not like fining our neighbors but the safety of your feet is our utmost concern.  Please teach your teenagers and children to bring their beverages in plastic or cans.  Thank you for your cooperation.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
** Need a Pool Key?&#60;br /&#62;
If you need a key to the pool or tennis courts please contact &#60;a href=&#34;mailto:&#38;#98;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#97;&#38;#x72;&#38;#x64;&#38;#64;&#38;#x77;&#38;#x65;&#38;#x73;&#38;#116;&#38;#x62;&#38;#x75;&#38;#x72;&#38;#121;&#38;#x68;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#x61;&#38;#46;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#x72;&#38;#103;&#34;&#62;&#38;#98;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#97;&#38;#x72;&#38;#x64;&#38;#64;&#38;#x77;&#38;#x65;&#38;#x73;&#38;#116;&#38;#x62;&#38;#x75;&#38;#x72;&#38;#121;&#38;#x68;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#x61;&#38;#46;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#x72;&#38;#103;&#60;/a&#62;.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
** Johns Creek Fire Hydrant Testing&#60;br /&#62;
We have been notified by the City of Johns Creek that they will be testing fire hydrants in the area on July 20-21 and that mild water discoloration may occur.&#60;br /&#62;
 &#60;br /&#62;
Johns Creek Fire Department will conduct fire hydrant flow testing in the following areas:&#60;br /&#62;
- State Bridge Road at Medlock Bridge Road&#60;br /&#62;
- Medlock Bridge Road at Bobby Jones Drive&#60;br /&#62;
- Old Alabama Road at Cherbury Lane&#60;br /&#62;
- Old Alabama Road at Haynes Bridge Road&#60;br /&#62;
- Old Alabama Road at Nesbit Ferry Road&#60;br /&#62;
- Holcomb Bridge Road at Barnwell Road&#60;br /&#62;
- Barnwell Road at North Peak Drive&#60;br /&#62;
- Jones Bridge Road at Buice Road&#60;br /&#62;
- Morton Road at State Bridge Road&#60;br /&#62;
- Jones Bridge Road at Abbotts Bridge Road&#60;br /&#62;
- Jones Bridge Road at Douglas Road&#60;br /&#62;
- Abbotts Bridge Road at Medlock Bridge Road&#60;br /&#62;
- Johns Creek Parkway at Lakefield Drive&#60;br /&#62;
- McGinnis Ferry Road at Hospital Parkway&#60;br /&#62;
- McGinnis Ferry Road at Concord Hall Drive&#60;br /&#62;
- River Walk Landing at McGinnis Ferry Road&#60;br /&#62;
- Rogers Circle at Bell Road&#60;br /&#62;
- East Johns Crossing at Johns Creek Parkway&#60;br /&#62;
- Bell Road at Medlock Bridge Road&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
As a result of the flow testing, residents may experience some water discoloration on the following day after the hydrant flow tests are conducted. If this is the case, residents should flush their taps until the water runs clean, which usually takes from five to 10 minutes.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;

		 <title>Westbury News Mailing List - LOST KEYS</title>
		 <link>http://www.westburyhoa.org/news/mail.cgi/archive/news/20100621082936/</link>
		 <description>&#60;p&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
For those of you who went to the pool yesterday (Sunday 6/20/2010)..&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Our lifeguard Meghan misplaced a set of keys yesterday.  She thinks someone possibly picked them up by accident thinking they were theirs.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
The keys have a &#38;quot;P&#38;quot; stamped on one key and a &#38;quot;S&#38;quot; stamped on the other key.  If you accidently picked up these keys please contact us via &#60;a href=&#34;mailto:&#38;#x62;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#97;&#38;#114;&#38;#100;&#38;#x40;&#38;#119;&#38;#x65;&#38;#x73;&#38;#116;&#38;#x62;&#38;#x75;&#38;#114;&#38;#x79;&#38;#x68;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#x61;&#38;#46;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#114;&#38;#103;&#34;&#62;&#38;#x62;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#97;&#38;#114;&#38;#100;&#38;#x40;&#38;#119;&#38;#x65;&#38;#x73;&#38;#116;&#38;#x62;&#38;#x75;&#38;#114;&#38;#x79;&#38;#x68;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#x61;&#38;#46;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#114;&#38;#103;&#60;/a&#62; so we can return the keys.  &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Thanks.&#60;/p&#62;

** Westbury Needs Social Committee Leadership&#60;br /&#62;
Tammy Adler has stepped down from leading the social committee after heading it up for nine years.  Thank you to Tammy for your help with Westbury's social activities for so many years.  We appreciate it.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
If you are interested in Westbury having social activities in 2010, we need a handful of you to coordinate social events for this year.  We would like to see a number of co-chairs share the responsibility instead of just one person managing the entire committee.  Westbury's Board is only three members this year and so if there is going to be a social calendar this year, we will need your help.  No major time commitment is required.  If we can get a handful of you to help, it will make the time commitment much smaller for everyone.  &#60;br /&#62;
Please contact us by January 31, 2010 at &#60;a href=&#34;mailto:&#38;#98;&#38;#111;&#38;#97;&#38;#114;&#38;#x64;&#38;#x40;&#38;#119;&#38;#101;&#38;#x73;&#38;#116;&#38;#x62;&#38;#x75;&#38;#x72;&#38;#121;&#38;#x68;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#97;&#38;#x2E;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#114;&#38;#103;&#34;&#62;&#38;#98;&#38;#111;&#38;#97;&#38;#114;&#38;#x64;&#38;#x40;&#38;#119;&#38;#101;&#38;#x73;&#38;#116;&#38;#x62;&#38;#x75;&#38;#x72;&#38;#121;&#38;#x68;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#97;&#38;#x2E;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#114;&#38;#103;&#60;/a&#62; if you would like to help plan this year's social calendar.  The committee will meet in February.&#60;br /&#62;

** Criminal Activity in Windgate Last Night&#60;br /&#62;
There was criminal activity in our neighboring subdivision, Windgate last night..&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Date: 1/15/2010&#60;br /&#62;
From Mark Zana, board member who lives on Ashwind Trace east of Windbrooke Way:&#60;br /&#62;
&#38;quot;My next door neighbors had their house broken into this evening at 8:00 pm, while their teenage daughter was home alone upstairs.  Luckily, they have two dogs who scared the guy off minutes after he entered their back door, but minutes later someone attempted to get into our house while my daughter was home with a babysitter.  He kicked at my front door and then went around to the back door (unless there were two people).  Our babysitter took our daughter and hid in an upstairs closet before calling me (I was at the tennis courts) and then the police.  This all happened within minutes after I left my house and my neighbor's mother left her house, as if someone had seen us leave.  &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Thankfully nobody was hurt and nothing was damaged or stolen, but this was a pretty brazen attempt.  Our neighbor only saw one man from behind as he was running out her back door, but he was dressed in jeans, a black sweatshirt, gloves and a black knitted beanie cap.  She described him as well over six feet tall and heavily built, but didn't see his face and couldn't tell his skin color.  My daughter and our babysitter only saw a silhouette of a man on our deck, it was too dark to get a description but they thought he had a navy blue or black sweatshirt on.  The John's Creek police were here in minutes, they got to my house just minutes after I did, and did a thoroughly professional job.  They mentioned that given the economy these types of incidents are on the rise in this area and that the perpetrators are mostly looking for cash and jewelry, small things they can carry in their pockets.&#38;quot;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Johns Creek Police Department offers these suggestions to help prevent break-ins around your home:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#38;#149; Always keep your garage doors closed.&#60;br /&#62;
&#38;#149; Keep your doors and windows locked, especially when someone is home alone. &#60;br /&#62;
&#38;#149; Use your exterior lighting throughout the night. If a nearby street light is not functioning normally, contact Sawnee EMC to report it. Thieves do not want to be seen!&#60;br /&#62;
&#38;#149; ALWAYS call the police at the first sign of suspicious behavior. With your help we can make Johns Creek an un-inviting place for criminal activity and criminals.&#60;br /&#62;
&#38;#149; Remove all valuables from your vehicles, or at least from view, when parked in driveways or public places.&#60;br /&#62;
&#38;#149; When hiding items such as GPS and MP3 devices, also remove the holders from the windshield and cords used to plug them in. Otherwise, thieves know the devices are probably in the glove compartment.&#60;br /&#62;
&#38;#149; Keep cars in the driveway and off the street.&#60;br /&#62;
Criminal activity increases during tough economic times. These are tough economic times. We must all be more vigilant to keep our neighborhoods safe.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
That's all for this update..  Keep your garage doors closed!&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
